In a highly anticipated preseason clash between the Warriors and Lakers, the Golden State Warriors showcased overwhelming firepower, cruising to a 124-98 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. The standout performer for the Warriors was 24-year-old "older rookie" Yaxel Lendeborg, who erupted for 17 points and 9 rebounds. After the game, head coach Steve Kerr praised him highly, noting his strong offensive aggression and even experimenting with Lendeborg at the center position in a small-ball lineup to maximize the team's scoring output.
The Warriors came out firing from the opening tip. Lendeborg, coming off the bench for 21 minutes, displayed remarkable efficiency on offense, shooting 7-of-11 from the field including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, finishing with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. His energy and sharp shooting touch were key factors in the Warriors building their lead.
Making his home debut in a Warriors uniform, Lendeborg was visibly excited after the game. "The atmosphere was really electric, and it's a lot of fun playing here," he said emotionally. "Seeing so many fans in the stands, and even some familiar faces from the California Classic, it feels great. I'm really grateful for this opportunity."
Beyond individual performances, Kerr's lineup decisions drew attention. In the third quarter, he moved Lendeborg to the center position, forming an aggressive offensive unit. Kerr commented, "This could be a very attacking lineup. Considering the various situations in the new season, sometimes we have to make these experiments out of necessity."
